The United Nations defines Sustainable Development as “Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”
We live in an increasingly global world that is becoming more economically, socially, politically, and culturally integrated each year. This integration provides new opportunities for economic development and cultural understanding. In sub-Saharan Africa, globalization can mean anything from grinding poverty to opportunity. Increased globalization can provide the countries of sub-Saharan Africa opportunities for development that could either positively or negatively impact their ability to emerge out of poverty. For participants to understand how globalization can impact African countries, they need to understand its culture and history first hand. The global mindset that facilitates this growth is becoming an integral skill for tomorrow’s leaders.
Studying sustainable development in Uganda provides a foundation for tomorrow's global citizens to understand the impact of globalization on a developing economy.
